Well another summer is here, and Ive got a few new projects in the works. The first one is a new band Im involved with called Albie and The Neighborhood. Its led by Albie Monterrosa who was in the band De Sol. This is his new project and I played drums on the cd which will be out in July. We have a cd release party On July 14th at The Press Room in Asbury Park NJ. We will also be doing a residency at The Press Room this summer, playing there every Wednesday night starting July 18th through the summer. Its a great band and I get to play alot of Afro Cuban/ Brazilian stuff in an R&B, rock setting (if that makes any sense!) with a percussionist, Nerio Matheus who is slamming! The band also includes Rob Tanico on bass, John Bednar on guitar, and Sally Monterrosa on vocals. make sure you check this out. Its alot of fun and im looking forward to the shows.

You can also find me twice a month on Tuesday nights at McLoones in Asbury Park. My friend and all around great guy and great musician, Marc Ribler has really put together a great night of music there every Tuesday night. A bunch of great local talent has come by to play with the band including, Glen Burtnik, Jack Daley, John Conte, Jeff Kazee, and many others. Im there usually 2 Tuedays a month (not every Tuesday) so Ill be putting those dates here on the website. The Tuedays that im not playing at Mcloones, you can find me playing with The Keith Franklin Quartet at The Witherspoon Grill in lovely Princeton NJ. Good place to come have a drink, enjoy the outside seating, and listen to some great jazz. Of course, you can also still find me playing all over the Jersey shore with the ever popular Brian Kirk and the Jirks. We’ll be playing our usual haunts, and the band is always killing!!!

Also, im going to be doing a few dates with a singer from Ireland named Jack L. Hes a popular singer in Ireland, kind of like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and the music is really interesting and fun to play. Pop with jazz influence, so should be a fun time. Stay tuned for gig dates.

One other thing Im doing is subbing on drums for the great Vic Stevens at Revel Casino in Atlantic City NJ. Ill be playing for the Royal Jelly burlesque show which is a cool, hip modern day burlesque show backed by a killer jazz trio. The music is funk,r&b, jazz, and latin arrangements of alot of popular songs. Im there the first Thursday of every month filling in for Vic. The trio is led by Doug Dehays on sax and Jeff Seykot on bass.

Finally, lately Ive been doing some short drum videos for my youtube channel (www.youtube.com/tomcottone). These videos will eventually become short video lessons available here at my website. Still in the works, but should be done by the fall. I will also be available for Skype drum lessons in the fall as well. Im very excited about this, as Ive always been somewhat of a “drum geek”, always interested in discovering new players, techniques, etc. and sharing what I can with fellow drummers. Thats about it. Should be a great few months and hope to see you all somewhere down the road. Please come and say hi if you’re out and about!!
